Drug Charges for Philipstown Man Stopped on Route 301

Police say the odor of marijuana emanated from the car.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Philipstown man on a charge of drug possession.

At 8:28 a.m., Sept. 22, Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Route 301 in the Town of Philipstown.

As he approached, Irwin recognized the odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle, police said.

The deputy alleges that the driver, identified as Kenneth R. Place, 25, of 33 Mill Road, Philpstown, was in possession of quantities of marijuana and cocaine.

He arrested Place and charged him with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation; and with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. Place was processed at the PCSD Nelsonville substation and released pending a future appearance in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, Place could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, police said.
