DWI Charge for 17-year-old

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Kent man on a DWI charge.

At 10:05 p.m. Aug. 3, Deputy Sheriff Christopher Tompkins stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Route 6 in Carmel. The deputy came to the conclusion that the driver, identified as Ever A. Javier Martinez, 17, of 238 Towners Road, Kent was intoxicated.

The deputy arrested Javier Martinez and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after he failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests.

The teen was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, he could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
