Five Charged With DWI In Putnam County: Police

New York state police are cracking down on impaired driving.

SOUTHEAST, NY — State Police in Troop K removed 16 impaired drivers from the roads over the weekend of July 27-29, including five in Putnam County.

  • On July 27, State Police arrested Carlos Hernandez Avila, 39, of Danbury, CT, for DWI. He was traveling on State Route 22 in the town of Southeast, when he was stopped for a vehicle and traffic law violation. Investigation revealed that he was impaired by alcohol, police said.
  • On July 28, State Police arrested George Brereton, 27, of Somers, NY, for DWI. He was traveling on State Route 6 in the town of Carmel, when he was stopped for a vehicle and traffic law violation. Investigation revealed that he was impaired by alcohol, police said.
  • On July 28,, State Police arrested John R. Rya, 19, of North Salem, NY, for DWI. He was traveling on Interstate 84 in the town of Southeast, when he was involved in personal injury motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed that he was impaired by alcohol, police said.
  • On July 29, State Police arrested Majed Faya, 32, of New Milford, CT, for DWI. He was traveling on Interstate 684 in the town of Southeast, when he was stopped for a vehicle and traffic law violation. Investigation revealed that he was impaired by alcohol, police said.
  • On July 29, State Police arrested Ramiro Torres, 27, of Mount Kisco, NY, for DWI. He was traveling on Interstate 684 in the town of Southeast, when he was involved in a property damage motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed that he was impaired by alcohol, police said.
