Hazardous Weather Outlooks for Most Of Hudson Valley

Cold rain, sleet, wet snow and slippery roads: here are the latest details.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Warning that roads could get slippery, the National Weather Service has issued hazardous weather outlooks for Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Ulster counties as well as updating its winter weather advisories for the rest of the Hudson Valley.

The Mid-Hudson could get 1-3 inches of snow and sleet.

"Be prepared for some slick spots in the morning on Sunday," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "But as the day progresses, the low pressure will develop off shore, and we’ll see colder air begin to return into the atmosphere… changing rain showers to wet snow from NW to SE near and after sunset."

Rockland and Westchester counties will see sleet and rain Sunday afternoon and night but have not had hazardous outlooks issued.

Mixed precipitation expected. A period of freezing rain with ice accumulations under a tenth of an inch is expected today. As the system departs, a wintry mix is then expected tonight with combined snowfall/sleet accumulations of up to around an inch.
* WHERE...In New York, Orange and Putnam Counties. In New Jersey, Western Passaic County.
* WHEN...Now through to 6 AM EST Monday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions.

The Hazardous Weather Outlook for Dutchess and Ulster:

Wintry mixed precipitation expected including snow, sleet and freezing rain. The wintry mix may change to rain this afternoon, but then transition to snow, sleet and possibly freezing rain Sunday night. Total snow and sleet accumulations one to three inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch are expected. The higher snow and sleet accumulations will be over the higher terrain.
* WHERE...Dutchess and Ulster Counties in east central New York. Litchfield County, Connecticut.
* WHEN...From 4 AM Sunday to 4 AM EST Monday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light freezing rain, snow and sleet accumulations on exposed surfaces will lead to slippery conditions. Untreated roads will become slick and hazardous as well.
