Head-On Collision Closes Route 22 For Hours

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — A collision Tuesday morning between a sedan and a pickup truck on Route 22 sent both drivers to Danbury Hospital.

The Putnam Sheriff's Department received a call about the crash at 8:24 a.m., said Capt. Kevin Junjulas.

Route 22 was closed in both directions just north of the Southeast town line as emergency responders extricated the drivers and cleaned up the scene. Traffic was redirected around it where possible using Old Doansburg Road.

Route 22 reopened just before noon.

New York State Police are reconstructing the incident.
