Heavy Snow Heads To The Hudson Valley: Winter Storm Warnings Issued
Even the southern end of the region, where a wintry mix is predicted, could get 5 inches of snow.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings and advisories across the region that have two things in common: heavy snow and hazardous conditions that could affect the morning or evening commute.
The storm is expected to move in from the southwest between 7-9 p.m. Monday.
"Once precipitation begins this evening it will ramp up quickly and road conditions will deteriorate rapidly," said Alex Marra of Hudson Valley Weather.

Going into effect at 6 p.m. and expiring at 1 p.m. Tuesday:
- Winter storm warnings for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester: Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches.
- For southern Westchester, an advisory. A wintry mix of snow, sleet and rain is expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches expected, with locally up to 6 inches possible.

- For Ulster, a warning: Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches. Snow totals will be lowest near the Hudson River and highest over portions of the southern Adirondacks and eastern Catskills. Snow will be heaviest between 9 p.m. this evening and 5 a.m. Tuesday, where snowfall rates of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour are expected.
- For Dutchess County, an advisory: Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches. Snow will be heaviest between 9 p.m. this evening and 5 a.m. Tuesday, where snowfall rates of around 0.5 inch per hour are expected.
In all cases, the National Weather Service warned, travel could be very difficult.
This snowstorm contains the energy from the powerful system that unloaded feet of snow and inches of rain on Southern California, AccuWeather Meteorologist Bill Deger said.
