Help Local Charity Send Cards To Vets At The VA
The aim is to connect to retired, hospitalized and disabled veterans, who are at risk during the new coronavirus outbreak.
PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — United for the Troops has embarked on a new project, one that's focused on service members here at home instead of those stationed abroad. The Hudson Valley-based charity wants to send lots of thank you and good will cards to veterans in Veterans Administration hospitals and homes.
It's a particularly hard time for veterans who are hospitalized, disabled or retired, as the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions are most at risk from the new coronavirus.
"While this time of uncertainty can bring fear to us, we have an opportunity to rest, prepare and come out stronger, and so we are doing what we know, and sending love and thank you notes," said Jim and Pat Rathschmidt in an email to supporters. "None of this is urgent nor should anyone feel compelled to participate, however, if you or your children are looking for something to do and something else to think about this may be an option. As always we thank you for your support and wish you all health and safety."

"We are also collecting names and deployment addresses for future packings," they said. "If you would like to submit a deployed soldier please email us with their full name and deployment address, if possible include an estimated number of soldiers with them and if possible an idea on how many women."
