High-Speed Chase Down Route 6 from Brewster to Carmel
Now a Sullivan County man is in the Putnam County jail.

A driver chased by Connecticut police across the border Thursday night also fled from Brewster police before he was finally halted in Carmel.
Now Sullivan County resident Daniel O'Brien, 36, is in Putnam County Jail facing charges of Attempted Assault in the 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, a Class D Felony, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, and Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree, all Misdemeanors.
State police said Connecticut authorities advised the New York State Police they were attempting to stop a Ford F150 pick-up truck, which subsequently entered New York State. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was spotted by a Village of Brewster Police Officer and the vehicle fled when the Officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police joined the pursuit and the vehicle was subsequently stopped on State Route 6 in Carmel.

O’Brien exited his vehicle and immediately began physically fighting with law enforcement officers. He was transported to Putnam Hospital for injuries sustained during the struggle.
He was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Justice Court before Town Justice Thomas Jacobellis and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or bond.

The State Police were assisted by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Village of Brewster Police Department.
Reporter Eric Gross said the scene resembled "a cops and robbers thriller" when a dozen police cars converged on Carmel, lights flashing and sirens blaring.
