Hydrant Flushing in Brewster Wednesday

Hydrant flushing will be done in the village of Brewster on Wednesday.

Officials remind residents:

It will likely cause discolored water which usually settles down after 24-48 hours depending on your location in the Village. Do not run your water; it will not clear up faster, could prolong the period of discoloration, and will cost you unnecessary expense. Discolored water could stain clothes so it would be best to refrain from laundry for a couple of days.

This semi-annual necessary event maintains firefighting capabilities by ensuring maximum pressure at each hydrant. Unfortunately it disturbs the sedimentation in the mains causing the discolored water at the tap. Once the mains settle again the water color will return to normal.
