K9 Pietro In Training To Join Carmel Police Department
The 2-year-old has already gotten his own Instagram account.
CARMEL, NY — After a 10-year hiatus, the Carmel Police Department re-established its K9 Unit earlier this year.
The unit will be staffed by Police Officer Vincent DeSantola and K9 Pietro, named in memory of a member of the department, the late Gary Pietropaolo Jr.
DeSantola and Pietro, a 2-year-old Czech Shepard, began their training at the Yonkers Police Department’s K9 School Aug. 22. This strenuous course will last until December and will train Pietro as a dual purpose patrol and narcotics detection police canine, along with giving DeSantola the skills needed to be a certified police K9 handler.
