Letter to the Editor: Former Supervisor Supports Byrne in Republican Assembly Primary

Patch always welcomes letters to the editor.

To the Editor:

There is an important Republican Primary on September 13th to decide the GOP candidate for our Assembly District, The seat is currently held by Steve Katz who is not running for re-election.

I'm supporting Kevin Byrne for several reasons.

Kevin Byrne is running for office for the very first time. His opponent on the other hand, appears to have strong ties to some old Albany politician. We need new ideas and independent thinkers in Albany, not the same old same old.

Kevin knows all of the Towns in the Assembly District because he's been volunteering and working in them for all of his life. He’s been a volunteer EMT, firefighter and Putnam Valley Planning Board member. He’s seen firsthand the issues that are important to us and he shares our values.

Kevin has also earned our support the old fashioned way, by knocking on doors and attending local events so we can get to know him.

He didn't resort to trickery with his nominating petitions as his opponent tried, rather he energized his volunteers who hit the pavement and garnered the signatures he needed to get on the Ballot.

Let's elect someone for State Assembly who is honest, independent and hardworking.

Vote for Kevin Byrne on September 13 in the Republican Primary.

—Mary Beth Murphy—Former Supervisor of Somers
