Mahopac Man Accused of Sexually Abusing 14-Year-Old Girl

She was a family friend, police said.

CARMEL, NY — Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that a Mahopac man has been arrested on charges that he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl.

Daniel G. Moloney, Jr., 30, of 365 East Lake Blvd., is accused of victimizing the girl—described as a family friend—in his home, police said.

Based on the victim’s allegations, sheriff’s investigators obtained and executed a search warrant for Moloney’s home Oct. 12. The next day, Moloney surrendered himself at the Sheriff’s Office, accompanied by his attorney. He was arrested and arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford, who set bail in the amount of $40,000, which was posted to secure his release.

The defendant is facing two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree and one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree. Those offenses are class B felonies, which are punishable by up to 25 years’ imprisonment upon conviction.
