Mother's Day Events at Chuang Yan Monastery

Starting with the investiture of a new abbot and ending with folk art performances, this is open to all.

New York State’s biggest Buddhist temple, Chuang Yan Monastery, is hosting a Buddha Bathing Ceremony and a Garden Party for Mother’s Day plus a special event: an Enthronement Ceremony for the new abbot, Venerable Hui Chong.

The ceremony will start with the recognition and the enthronement of the Abbot by four elderly higher monks and will be marked by Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi.

That will be followed by the Buddha Bathing Ceremony, which is the celebration of the birth of Sakyamuni for his meritoriousness in spreading the Dharma. As participants are bathing the statue, we should visualize that we are washing away and eradicating all defilements and impurities of our body and mind. At the same time, we will pray for mothers around the world. We pray for their happiness and well-being by lighting up candles and bestowing the blessings for them.
