NY AG's Office Opens Probe Into Officer-Involved Shooting In Southeast
According to the AG's office, two deputies fired their weapons at the man.
SOUTHEAST, NY — The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation has opened an investigation into the death of a man in an encounter Tuesday with members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department in Southeast.

According to the preliminary investigation, a call reporting domestic violence and an apparent abduction came into Kent town police at 9:45 a.m. The information described a vehicle with a suspect and victim, a Putnam County Sheriff's Office spokesman told Patch. Sheriff’s deputies who were assisting Kent police located the car in the adjacent town of Southeast, on Fields Corner Road near Pugsley Road. They saw a man stabbing a woman with a knife.

Two deputies fired their weapons at the man, according to the AG's Office. Police recovered a knife at the scene.
The man died despite lifesaving efforts. The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition with multiple stab wounds, police said Tuesday.

Pursuant to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI assesses every incident reported to it where a police officer or a peace officer, including a corrections officer, may have caused the death of a person, by an act or omission. Under the law, the officer may be on-duty or off-duty, and the decedent may be armed or unarmed. Also, the decedent may or may not be in custody or incarcerated. If OSI’s assessment indicates an officer caused the death, OSI proceeds to conduct a full investigation of the incident.
