Obituary: Arthur Mancini, Artist And Advocate

Arthur Mancini died on May 15, 2023 at his home with family by his side. He was 83 years old. Arthur was born in October of 1939 in Yonkers, NY. Son to Francesco and Margaret (O’Brien) of Yonkers, and raised by his grandmother, Vincenza Mancini.

Arthur attended Roosevelt High School and City University of New York. He served in the United States Air Force in 1956. After leaving the Air Force he moved to Greenwich Village where his interest in art and architecture formed.

Art was employed by Xerox as a technician in New York City for 10 years. He left Xerox and focused on his stained glass art and went on to start his business, Art Mancini Glass & Mirror. In 2012, a table he built (copy of a Yves Klein) was pictured in a New York Times article featuring a luxurious Manhattan loft apartment.

Art was also a glider pilot and member of Valley Soaring Club in Middletown, NY where he flew for 20 years. His other hobbies and interests included studying physics, computer science, engineering, and creating stained glass furniture. Art was creative, he enjoyed singing and played the dulcimer. In retirement he could be found in his garage, building a custom laser machine for glass etching, and always working on a project.

He was a dedicated father and advocate for his son Gregory (who has Down Syndrome) when he was successful in his efforts to have Gregory attend Brewster High School.

Arthur is survived by his wife Ellen, his daughter Christine, his sons Francis and Gregory, and grandchildren Anna, Giancarlo, Nicholas, and Gabriella. Arthur was predeceased by his son Damian and sister Veronica.
