Barbara was born and raised in Mount Vernon, New York. She attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic School and Saint Helena’s High School in the Bronx, New York. Barbara started her professional career as a Bank Teller for Chase Manhattan Bank and quickly became Head Teller. She worked hard and later rose to become the Assistant Branch Manager. In 1977 Barbara would meet the love of her life James Capone, and from then on saw each other every day. They were married on October 4, 1981 at Saint Peter and Paul Church in Mount Vernon, New York. They spent 41 incredible years together. Barbara’s greatest joy and the “best thing she ever did” was being Mom to her two children Stefanie and Gregory. She loved watching them grow up and was so proud to say that she had two teachers as her children.

Barbara and her family moved up to Brewster, New York in 1995. While living in Brewster, Barbara found her calling when she became a Special Education Teacher Assistant for the Brewster Central School District. She loved helping the children and truly felt that it wasn’t “work”. On top of working for the Brewster School District, Barbara also worked for the ACME Supermarket. She would work in their bakery making donuts, muffins, and her signature fruited tarts until she finally retired in October of 2022.

Barbara was elated when her family grew with the wonderful additions of her daughter-in-law Alyson Capone and son-in-law James Galante. Her family grew even more when Barbara became a “Gram” to four incredible grandsons: James (7), Dominic (5), Matthew (5), and Giovanni (1 ½). Her favorite times were spent playing with her grandchildren.
