Obituary: Charles A. Gallagher Of Brewster

Charles A. ‘Chuck’ Gallagher, a lifelong resident of Brewster, NY, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 in Danbury, CT. He was 77 years old.

Born on August 25, 1944 in Brewster, NY, Chuck was the son of Charles A. and Ophelia (Miller) Gallagher. On February 14, 1983, Chuck married the love of his life, Laurie Goetze at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Brewster, NY.

Chuck had worked as a driver with Greyhound, Walter Transit, Academy and various bus companies through the years.

Chuck loved his Harley and enjoyed riding with family and friends. He was a member of the WRAMS (a remote-controlled airplane club in Patterson, NY) and enjoyed NASCAR.

Chuck was a former member of the Brewster Volunteer Fire Department having served as captain during his 17 years with the department. Chuck could always be found under the hood of a car and greatly enjoyed his grandchildren.

Besides his wife Laurie of 38 years, Chuck is survived by his seven children; Bunny Williams and Debbie Holland, both of South Carolina, Chuck Gallagher of Brewster, NY, John Gallagher of Granville, NY, Chris Gallagher of South Carolina (by his 1st wife Mary Tyndall), Shannon Smith of North Carolina and Shaun Gallagher of Brewster, NY (by his wife Laurie); a sister Helen Holas of Brewster, NY. Chuck was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 10, 2022 10AM at St. Lawrence O’ Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster.

Friends may call at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.

Chuck’s family wishes to thank the Praxair Cancer Center Oncology Unit, 11 floor at Danbury Hospital for their love and care throughout Chuck’s stay. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation of blood or platelets in Chuck’s memory.
