Obituary: Dorothy Durkin Eastwood, Lifelong Brewster Resident
Visitation is Tuesday and a funeral Mass is set for Wednesday.

Dorothy A. ‘Dottie’ Durkin Eastwood, a lifelong resident of Brewster, NY, died peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021. She was 86 years old.
Born on April 4, 1935 in Mt. Kisco, NY, Dottie was the daughter of William J. and Alma (LaMere) Durkin. In June of 1952, she graduated from Brewster High School.

On July 17, 1954, Dottie married the love of her life Kenneth H. Eastwood Jr. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster. Kenneth “Skip’ Eastwood predeceased his wife on November 2, 2015.
Following high school Dottie had worked with a bank in NYC for a few years before working as a billing clerk with NYSEG in Brewster for eight years after which she was home to raise her family.
Dottie was an avid Red Skins fan and enjoyed her bowling league for over 50 years, as well as gardening and tending to her many plants and fruit trees. She enjoyed spending time with her husband Skip, this included pitching in with the many chores around their small family farm.

Through the years, Dottie served as a district Girl Scout Cookie Chairperson, a 4-H leader, and often volunteered at the North Salem Schools when her children attended – including assisting with the I Care Club’s St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon for teachers.
Always the gracious hostess, Dottie would prepare many large and delicious meals for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays family and friends were always welcome. Dottie and Skip would host an annual 4 th of July picnic at their home, an event greatly enjoyed by all who attended.
Dottie is survived by her three children, Sharon E. Giannicchi and her husband Rich of Redding, CT, Carol A. Hazzard and her husband Rich of Patterson, NY, and Kenneth H. Eastwood III and his wife Jennifer of Brewster, NY; her three siblings, Jeanette Hatley of Fresno, CA, David Durkin of Rensselaer, NY and Edward Durkin and his wife Ann Marie of Sandy Hook, CT; her 5 grandchildren; Anna Giannicchi, Rose Giannicchi, Richard Giannicchi, Greer Hazzard and Sloane Hazzard. She was predeceased by her brother William J. Durkin Jr., her granddaughter Sutton Joy Hazzard, her brother-in-law Jim Hatley and her sister-in-law Susan Durkin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 10AM at St. Lawrence O’ Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment will follow at Maple Avenue Cemetery, Patterson, NY. Friends may call at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm.
