Obituary: Elda Arena Of Pawling

Elda Arena of Pawling, NY, passed away Tuesday November 29, 2022, in Carmel, NY at the age of 86.

She was born December 28, 1935, in New Rochelle, NY, daughter of the late Dominick and Carmella (Chiera) Chiera. She attended Isaac Young School in New Rochelle. On February 5, 1956, she married Anthony P. Arena at St. Joseph’s Church in New Rochelle. Anthony predeceased Elda on November 21, 2014.

Elda worked as a salesclerk for L & L Floors in New Rochelle then worked as a teacher’s assistant at Holy Family in New Rochelle. When Elda moved to Pawling, she became a member of St. John’s The Evangelist Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She loved playing cards, going to the casino, shopping, going out for breakfast, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, she loved bowling and going on vacations with her family.

Elda is survived by her sons Paul Arena and his wife Joanne of Bethel, CT, Anthony Arena and wife Gina of Norwalk, CT; daughters Doreen Pircio and fiancé Mark of Norwalk, CT, Donna Arena and fiancé Daniel of Hopewell Jct., NY; brothers Valerio Chiera and wife Lisa of Pelham, NY, Anthony Chiera and wife Anna of New Rochelle, NY; grandchildren Alicia (Mike), Anthony P. (Ariana), Jordan, Sarah, Candida, Christiana, Anthony Jr., Gabrielle and Michael and great grandchildren Olivia, Michael, Anthony and Isabella. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Fiorenza and brother-in-law Frank Fiorenza.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday December 6, 2022, at 11:00 am at St. John’s the Evangelist Church in Pawling followed by the interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury, CT. Calling hours will be held on Monday December 5, 2022, at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
