Obituary: George Cheung, Longtime Brewster Resident

A former Marine, he was 90.

George Cheung of Brewster, NY, passed away at home Tuesday August 9, 2022, at the age of 90.

George was born in Bronx, NY, son of the late Su and Lee (Shee) Kew. He graduated from Mamaroneck High School and served with the United States Marine Corps. from 1952 to 1954.

From there he earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from N.Y.U. In 1963, he married Frances Wong in Toronto, Canada and eventually settled in Brewster, NY where they spent their next 58 years.

George worked as a Contracts Administrator for Lear Siegler Inc. for thirty-four years until his retirement in 1996. George loved being active and enjoyed golf and tennis, playing bridge, big band/jazz, theater and all you can eat buffets. He was fun loving, good natured and could frequently be called upon to lend a helping hand. He especially treasured time with his family.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Frances, as well as son Mark Cheung and wife Beth of Litchfield, CT; daughter Nina Staley and husband Steve of Stamford, CT; sister Marion Lim and husband Ernie of Stamford, CT, four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private. Arrangements by the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY.
