Obituary: Harry W. Zutell of Brewster

He and his wife Lois moved to Brewster in 1959, where he was active in the community.

Harry W. Zutell of Brewster, NY, died May 7, 2019 in Brewster, at the age of 89. Mr. Zutell was born March 6, 1930 in Bronx, NY, son of the late Harry W. and Wanda (Gorecki) Zutell. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Parish, graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Iona College. He served honorably in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War.

On September 8, 1956 he married the love of his life, Lois Zuanelli in St. Philip and St. James Church in the Bronx. Together they moved to Brewster in 1959 and became parishioners of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church.

Mr. Zutell loved people and was very compassionate. This trait helped make him a successful personnel manager with AT&T in White Plains, NY for 32 years.

He sponsored adopted children in developing countries and started his neighborhood block party.
Harry was a foodie before being a foodie became a thing, especially when it came to wine, beer, and pickles. He enjoyed celebrating his German and Polish heritage, served as a lector at St. Lawrence O’Toole, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member and officer of the Elks club for many years, and a member of the American Legion.

Along with his wife of 62 years, Lois, Mr. Zutell is also survived by his three daughters; Kathryn Prokop of Florham Park, NJ, Carolyn Lowe of Brewster, NY, and Laura Handville of North Eastham, MA, eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Zutell of Hudson, FL and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 17, 2019, 11:00AM at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment will be private. Friends may call at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Thursday, May 16 from 3-7pm.
