Obituary: James H. Elliott, Retired Owner Of North Salem Garage

James H. Elliott ‘Spike’, 84, of Valatie, NY, died Wednesday, August 18, 2021 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
He passed away peacefully at St Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY with his family by his side.

James was born in Danbury, CT, January 29, 1937, the only child to James W. Elliott and Elsie Hartwell Elliott. He grew up in North Salem, NY and attended North Salem schools. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Jim (Spike) took over the North Salem Garage in 1978.
The garage was established in 1909 and stayed in the family until Jim’s “retirement” in 2005.

For 22 years, Jim was responsible for the maintenance of the Somers, NY State Police cars.
He moved to the Albany area in 2005 where he worked delivering parts for NAPA for more than 10 years. Valatie, NY has been his home for the past 16 years.
As a young man Jim enjoyed fixing and racing cars. Vacations were spent with his wife taking many cruises; Bermuda, East & West Caribbean, Panama Canal to San Francisco and more local activities with the Tri-Village Seniors. Jim will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, RoseMarie Napolitano of Valatie, NY; Daughter, Melissa Elliott-Walker and her husband Ray of New Fairfield, CT. Son, Scott Elliott of Danbury, CT. His beloved granddaughters, Stephanie Walker-Kulp (James) and Sarah Walker both of New Fairfield, CT. His two great grandchildren, James Kulp and Riley Kulp. A niece, Laura Hotaling (Adam) and his great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021, at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY from 4pm-7pm. Interment will be Tuesday, August 24, at Milltown Rural Cemetery in Brewster NY, at 10:30am beginning with a gathering at the Funeral Home at 9 am.
A Celebration of Life in Valatie, NY to be held at a later date.
