Obituary: Joseph Tyson, Former North Salem School Trustee

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at St. Lawrence O' Toole Church in Brewster.

Joseph M. Tyson of North Salem, NY, passed away on Saturday May 7, 2022, in Cortlandt, NY at the age of 88.

Joseph was born on June 19, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY. He was one of seven children and the only son of the late Joseph and Mary (O’Connor) Tyson. He served with the 32nd Combat Infantry Regiment, which was part of the 7th Infantry Division of the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954, attained the rank of Technical Sergeant and was a purple heart and bronze star recipient. After his service, Joseph received his Associates Degree from Brooklyn College.

On June 27, 1976, Joseph married the love of his life, Laurel V Regan in Lewisboro, NY. Joseph enjoyed working as an insurance adjuster and created his own business firm later in life.

Joseph’s passions were many and he was an active member of the community. He served on the Board of Education for North Salem Central School District. Joseph was a member and a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, St. Lawrence O’Toole Council 1492, as well as First Vice Commander of the American Legion North Salem post 1866 and a member of the VFW.

Joseph is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Laurel, his sons Connor (Fiona) of Pleasantville NY, and Matthew (Dominique) of Greenwich CT; his daughter Deirdre Tyson of North Salem, NY and five grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 12, 2022, 11AM at St. Lawrence O’ Toole Church in Brewster, NY. Followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Friends and Family may pay their respects during Visitation at The Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, NY on Wednesday, May 11th 4PM-7PM.
