Obituary: Kenneth C. Kern of Brewster

Kenneth C. Kern of Brewster, NY, passed away at home with his family at his side Sunday May 7, 2023, at the age of 80.

Kenneth was born August 19, 1942, in Manhattan, NY, son of the late Charles and Rose (Leto) Kern. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, NY. On May 12, 1962, he married Janet Meinzer in Calvary Baptist Church. They moved from Yonkers to Brewster in 1968.

Ken spent the majority of his career as an Automotive Parts Manager at various General Motors dealerships, and as owner of The Exact Auto Inventory Company. After retiring from the automotive industry, Ken turned one of his hobbies into a second career and opened Ken Kern Carpentry and More in Brewster, NY, In his younger years he enjoyed playing Softball, Basketball and all kinds of outdoor sports. He enjoyed shooting trap, hunting, fishing, traveling with his family and was an avid Yankees fan.

Besides his wife Janet he is survived by his children, Jennifer LaCosta and her husband Ricardo IV of Auburn Hills, MI, son Jeffrey Kern and his wife Jacqueline of Newtown, CT, sister Karen Matteau and her husband Donald of Denver, NC and grandchildren Ricardo LaCosta V and Andrew LaCosta.

Calling hours will take place on Thursday May 18, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY. The interment will take place in Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale at the convenience of the family.
