Obituary: Mary K. Sandell, Longtime Brewster Resident

A mass of Christian burial for the 100-year-old will be celebrated Saturday at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church.

Mary K. Sandell, a long time Brewster, NY resident, passed away Wednesday December 14, 2022, in Danbury, CT at the age of 100.

Mary was born May 7, 1922, in Bronx, NY, daughter of the late Simon and Eileen (Powers) Maloney. She graduated from Manuel High School in Brooklyn, NY, class of 1940. On April 20, 1951, she married William Sandell in Brooklyn. William predeceased Mary in 1966. Mary worked for the City of New York in the Department of Social Services in Staten Island for fifteen years, retiring in 1984 and was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster.

Mary is survived by her sons Bernard Sandell and his wife Linda of Harrison, NY and Matthew Sandell and his wife Irene of Kissimmee, FL; daughter Lorna Cook and her husband James of Patterson, NY, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was also predeceased by her son Eugene Sandell in 2016.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday December 17, 2022, at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster. The interment will be private. Calling hours will take place Saturday morning prior to the mass from 10:30 am to 12:30 am at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY.
