Obituary: Richard J. Dooner Of Brewster

Mr. Dooner was the Director of Pharmacy at White Plains Hospital for more than 25 years.

Richard J. Dooner, a 44-year resident of Brewster, NY, died on Thursday September 23,
2021, at Northern Westchester Hospital. He was 83 years old.
Born on August 6, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Richard J. and Blanche (Saenz)
Dooner. Richard graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School and then received his
bachelor’s degree from the University of Long Island. Richard honorably served in the US
Airforce from 1959-1962. Following his discharge, he continued his education at
Brooklyn College of Pharmacy receiving his master’s degree, before beginning his career
at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn.
Richard married the love of his life Maureen A. McHugh on September 17, 1966, at St.
Vincent Ferrer in Brooklyn, NY. They moved to Brewster where Richard and Maureen
raised a family and created friendships to last a lifetime. His love, Maureen, passed on
April 7, 2020.
Richard was the Director of Pharmacy at White Plains Hospital for over 25 years before
retiring in 2011. He was an active parishioner of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church. Mr.
Dooner was an avid Mets and Giants fan. He loved animals, birds and bears in particular,
and his dog Fifi. He had a strong appreciation for nature, whether it be found at his
second home in the Catskills or in one of the many Thomas Kinkade paintings he
collected. Richard was a strong man with a soft side, a provider for his family, a wise and
honest friend sought out for comfort and advice.
Richard is survived by his children; Richard (Jennifer) Dooner of Pleasant Valley, NY,
Heather Fortuna of Bethel, CT, Scott (Andrea) Dooner of Brewster, NY, his 3
grandchildren; Kayla, Richard and Jacob.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster,
NY on Thursday September 30, 2021 at 10am. Visitation will be held on Wednesday
September 29, 2021 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam
Avenue, Brewster. Interment will be private.
