Obituary: Robert J. Durkin, Retired From Putnam Sheriff's Office
Bobby Durkin, a longtime Brewster resident, served as a deputy sheriff, investigator, and sergeant in the corrections division.

Robert “Bobby” J. Durkin of Bethel, CT, previously of Brewster, NY, passed away at home peacefully with his family at his side Wednesday December 1, 2021, at the age of 81.
He was born January 9, 1940, in Danbury, CT, son of the late William and Elizabeth (Vassak) Durkin. He attended Brewster High School, then served with the United States Marine Corps. from 1957 to 1960.

Bobby joined the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff. He would later become an investigator with the department’s (BCI) Bureau of criminal investigation. He retired in 2003 as a Sergeant of the Sheriff’s Department corrections division. He lived most of his life in Brewster, and was a past member of the Elks Club and the Marine Corp League.
Bobby is survived by his sons Robert Durkin Jr. and his wife Lynda of Bethel, CT, William Durkin and his wife Kelly of Dover Plains, NY; sister Shirley Folchetti of LaGrange, NY; brother William Durkin of Sarasoto, FL; grandchildren William, Angelina, Kiersten, Lyndsey, Robert III, Annmarie and Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James.

Calling hours will take place Sunday December 5, 2021, at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A graveside service will follow Saturday December 11, 2021, at 11:00 am at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster.
