Susan and her husband, Stephen Jambor, eloped in Cape Cod on August 27, 1986. They raised one daughter, Marissa and have three granddaughters, Emily, Charlotte and Via.

“MOM”, as her granddaughters affectionately called her, was the best grandmother and it was her greatest joy. She fostered their obsession with Stew Leonard’s and often took them to the Bronx Zoo, as her Nana did with her. Christmas was her biggest event, as shopping was her favorite hobby! She told the girls to always look for her in the stars, where she will be with her parents and her beloved cat, Cleo.

Susan spent her career in Mount Vernon and Harrison, doing what she loved as a special education teacher and administrator. She passionately pursued a “fair playing field” for every student and wasn’t defined by a normal workday, believing, “the work isn’t done until it’s done.” In retirement, she served as Director of Special Education and Assistant Superintendent for other Westchester County school districts.

Susan was selfless to fault, a trait she carried through the end, donating her body to science at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She hoped it would help save the lives of others as the first person ever to donate with her very rare cancer.

Susan was preceded in death by her mother Diane and father, Ron. She is survived by her husband Stephen, her daughter Marissa, son-in-law Eric, her three granddaughters: Emily, Charlotte and Via, sisters Joan and Judy, brother Ken, niece Emma and nephews Matt, Jason, Ryan and Andrew.

Visiting hours will be held from 3-7pm on Wednesday, September 7th at Beecher Funeral Home; 1 Putnam Avenue in Brewster, NY. Please stop by to share a favorite memory of Susan.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center through Marissa’s Fred’s Team link, available at BeecherFuneralHome.com.
