Police: Brewster Man with Revoked License Drove Drunk

On April 25, 2016, New York State Police arrested 53-year-old Jeffery G. Welles, of Brewster, New York, for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree, both Class E Felonies.

Following a Putnam County 911 advisory broadcasting an erratic vehicle complaint, the Village of Brewster Police Department located and stopped the erratic vehicle on Main Street. Troopers assisting the village police arrested the driver, identified as Welles, after they investigated and concluded that he was intoxicated at the time of the traffic stop.

Welles was charged with felony DWI when a criminal history revealed that he was previously convicted of DWI in 2014. The defendant was also charged with driving a motor vehicle without a court ordered interlock device and operating a motor vehicle while his driving privileges were revoked.

Welles provided police with a positive breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .23 percent, more than two times the legal limit of intoxication. He was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or bond. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Carmel Court on May 2, 2016.
