Putnam Adds Hours For In-Person Absentee Ballot Applications
Here also are the rules for mailing or handing in absentee ballots in the 2021 general election in Putnam County.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY â Putnam County elections officials are offering extra office hours for those who want to pick up an absentee ballot application or return an absentee ballot in person for the general election in November.
Applications requesting to receive an absentee ballot by mail must be received by the Board of Elections no later than 15 days before the election.
Want to pick up an application? Regular business hours for the Putnam County Board of Elections are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. In addition, the office will be open extra hours on six days in October. Here is the schedule:

- Tuesday, Oct. 19: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Thursday, Oct. 21: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 23: 9 a.m. - noon
- Tuesday, Oct. 26: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m..
- Thursday, Oct: 28: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 30: 9 a.m. - noon
If you want to request a ballot and then vote by mail, be aware that deadlines are fast approaching. In-person applications must be received by the board no later than the day before the election.

You may return your absentee ballot in one of four ways, each with its own deadline:
- Put it in the mail ensuring it receives a postmark no later than Nov. 2.
- Bring it to the County Board of Elections Office by 9 p.m. Nov. 2
- Bring it to an early voting poll site Oct. 23 - 31.
- Bring it to a poll site on Election Day by 9 p.m. Nov. 2

Registered voters will also be able to cast their ballot over nine days prior to Election Day. Early voting sites will be located not only at the Putnam County Board of Elections, as last year, but also at the North Highlands Fire House, giving residents access to an early voting location on the west side as well as the east side of the county.
