Putnam Coronavirus Update: 277 Active Cases
The total of coronavirus cases confirmed since the outbreak began in March jumped before the holiday weekend.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — The coronavirus continues to spread in Putnam County.
The number of confirmed cases since the outbreak began in March jumped before the holiday weekend, with the total as of Dec. 24 reaching 4,533 — 396 more cases than the week before that. The number of people tested — 5,685 — was 11 percent lower than the week before.
There were fewer COVID-19 patients at Putnam Hospital Center, down to 16 on Christmas Eve from 24 the week before.

The rate of positive test results from Sunday was elevated in Putnam as in the other counties in the Hudson region. During a briefing Monday morning, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said health officials thought one possible reason was that only people who had symptoms of COVID-19 went to be tested over the holiday weekend.
