The Putnam County Highway Department had replaced the aging bridge and, after months of construction, reopened it to traffic in November. In early December, however, the bridge was closed again as NYSEG had to replace a gas line that had been attached to it.
That work was scheduled to be completed on Thursday, ending the detour that sent local drivers onto heavily trafficked I-684 and Route 22.
