Putnam Sheriff K-9 Tracks, Finds Suspect

They were called to the scene of a violent domestic incident.

CARMEL, NY — Three members of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department assisted Carmel police at the scene of a violent domestic incident Wednesday. They tracked a person who had run away.

At about 5:30 a.m. Sept. 5, Deputy Vincent Dalo, Sgt. Timothy Keith, and K-9 Lex, part of the K-9 Unit of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, responded to a home in the Town of Carmel.

Deputy Dalo obtained an article of the subject’s clothing which was used as a “scent article”. The “scent article” was introduced to Dalo’s K-9 partner Lex. Lex was able to locate a trail left by the subject and led Deputy Dalo and Sgt. Keith into a wooded area where the suspect was found lying in a tall grassy area.
