School Board Election Upset In Brewster

Voters only re-elected one of the two incumbents running for new terms on the Board of Education.

BREWSTER, NY — Residents in the Brewster school district voted on the 2020-21 school budget, a plan to buy new school buses, and a three-way race for two seats on the Board of Education.

The $103.98 million school spending plan was approved. The unofficial tally:

  • Yes - 2,217
  • No - 1,455

Proposition Two, $730,000 for new school buses, was approved but more narrowly.

  • Yes - 2,165
  • No - 1,512

There were three candidates running for two seats on the Board of Education. School trustees serve three year terms and are unpaid. Incumbent Kerry Cunningham was re-elected, but incumbent Glenn Niles fell short of winning another term as challenger Francine Santos received the second-highest vote count.

  • Cunningham - 2,213
  • Santos - 2,107
  • Niles - 1,906
