Senior Trio Leads Brewster Softball Squad
Team has three solid team leaders in Jess Griesinger, Moriah Feeney, and Katie O'Connell.
Brewster’s softball squad has split its first four games during a tough schedule, and one reason why is its solid senior leadership in pitcher Jess Griesinger, who is a four-year varsity player, right fielder Moriah Feeney and second baseman Katie O’Connell.
“I am pretty excited about the season,” Feeney said. “We started off with three very difficult teams, R.C. Ketcham, Beacon and Arlington. They are each very competitive teams. The games have been close, they have gone to the last inning. We just have to get the bat on the ball, get some runners on base and I think we will do a great job this season.”
Griesinger, O’Connell and Feeney are the only three seniors on the team, thus their leadership is instrumental.

“I feel like I try my hardest to bring leadership to the team,” Feeney said. “I am always talking, trying to keep everyone excited during the game. As much as I am a senior, I feel here that we are all equal. There is no hierarchy here. We all each help each other out. We just try our hardest to keep each other going.”
Griesinger is working hard on the mound to keep things going for the Bears, according to Feeney.

“She is the captain, she brings everything out,” Feeney said. “After coach talks, she will come out with more advice, more of what to work on. She keeps everyone focused and everyone’s attitude up. As a pitcher, she is a very big part of the team. She gets us going to make the plays behind her. She is always supporting everyone.”
In turn, everyone has supported her.
“All my coaches and my teammates have been very important in my development as a pitcher, they have helped me along the way,” Griesinger said.
Griesinger said she would like to graduate with a league championship.
“I would like to put up a banner in our gym for softball; we haven’t had one in awhile,” Griesinger said. “We keep coming in second in our league, and so I hope this year we could come in first.”
Looking to help Brewster reach first are two juniors— shortstop Savannah Sergio and center fielder Marisa Delzio.
“Savannah is a character, she is hilarious,” Feeney said. “She will always come out with her little jokes and everything. She will always make everyone laugh."
“She goes out there and does her job but then she is a huge asset to the team and us bonding and Marisa is the same exact way,” Feeney added.
The closeness that the team enjoys comes with playing with each other for basically their entire lives.
“Our entire team has played together since Little League so we grew up with each other,” Feeney said. “We balance off each other very well.”
