Brewster senior and team captain Mike Parise's high school wrestling career came to a heartbreaking halt with a triple overtime loss on Day II of the New York State Wrestling championship tournament.

2012 High School Championship Tournament results for Brewster's Mike Parise

First round (Day I)

* Lost to Saint Anthony (Catholic School Champ) Freddy Danau by pin with 15 seconds left in third period (Mike was ahead on points at that time)

In wrestle backs:

* Won by major decision 11-0 over Zin Htoo of Brooklyn Tech HS (Private School Champ)

* Defeated Nathan Marshall (Massenna HS- Section 10 champ) by decision 7-1 (earning passage to Day II)

* (Day II) Lost in triple overtime (2-0 3OT) to Corning HS (Section 4 champ) Jimmy Overhisser

 

Hoops at the county center

The best in local boys and girls basketball, from Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and southern Dutchess, will be competing at the Westchester County Center in White Plains Feb. 27-March 4 in the Section 1 semifinals and finals for the right to hoist the Gold Ball.

 

Basketball tryouts

The Nor-East Lightning will be having basketball tryouts at the Brewster Sports Center beginning Saturday, March 3.
