Stop & Shop To Hold Grand Opening Friday In Mahopac

Don't miss the entertainment and give-aways. Check out the new sections. Here's a VIDEO sneak preview.

MAHOPAC, NY — Stop & Shop is unveiling a fresh new look for its brand with the opening of its new 49,155 sq. ft Mahopac store at 7 a.m. Friday. The new store is anchoring the thoroughly refurbished Lake Plaza shopping center at 1001 Route 6.

This location will be the first one in New York State to feature the new look and updated design and logo, which is an exciting time for officials at the 100-year-old company. So they're doing a lot for the grand opening.

The store will commemorate the day with a community-focused ribbon cutting ceremony and a weekend full of giveaways and family-friendly entertainment for the Mahopac community.

Additionally, to reinforce its commitment to giving back to the community, the store will also present the Food Pantry of St. John’s with a $1,000 donation along with a donation of 500 turkeys to the Hillside Food Outreach organization.

Stop & Shop’s new look includes a modernized store format and a new logo, which is a nod to the brand’s past and its legacy of breaking new ground in convenience.

Customers will enjoy an expanded gluten free section along with a large selection of local New York offerings including craft beers as well.

One of the store's new sections features cut fruit and a smoothie bar. It's right next to the entrance, so you can grab something healthy to sip on while you shop.

Another clever idea, specially as we head into the winter months, is a refrigerated case right by the check out counters — and it's filled with bread and milk (among other useful grab-and-go things).

“As our customers’ shopping needs are evolving, we’re continuing to look at how we can improve their shopping experience to better serve them,” said Bob Yager SVP, Stop & Shop Central Region. “Mahopac is the first store we’re opening in New York State as part of our journey towards repositioning our brand for future success and to help make grocery shopping easier and faster.”

The brand’s updated format reflects a customer-centric approach and a commitment to reshape its shopping experience around the customer and their evolving needs.

Employing 150 associates, the store’s opening creates approximately 115 new jobs for Putnam County residents, company officials said.

This is the second Stop & Shop on Route 6. But given how busy the Stop & Shop is in Baldwin Place, this will be a welcome addition to the Route 6 scene.

Additional highlights of the new Mahopac store include:

  • Expanded Gourmet Cheese - Customers can expect a wide assortment of cheeses from around the world as well as a special Hand-Cut Cheese section for our fresh cut cheese lovers.
  • Fresh in Store Sushi - New in-store Sushi Chef will make it easy to grab fresh, healthy meals with global flavors to-go.
  • Service Bakery Offering – Customers will be able to choose from a wide array of specialty and single serve dessert options like Macaroons, Rainbow Cakes, and more. In addition, our store will have Self-Service Gourmet Cupcake and Specialty Cookie Towers for our grab and go customers.
  • Expanded deli – The deli will feature several different offerings for home meal solutions. These include an upgraded Boar's Head sandwich program with made to order sandwiches. There will also be a hot bar open daily from 11 a.m to 8 p.m with freshly prepared lunch and dinner options.
