Vassar Brothers and Putnam Hospital Center Recognized By US News
U.S. News and World Report released its 'Best Hospitals' results. Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Putnam Hospital Center ranked highly.

To help guide patients to hospitals that provide outstanding care, U.S. News & World Report released its Best Hospitals results on Tuesday with Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Putnam Hospital Center ranked as “high performing” in two specialty categories.
In an evaluation of more than 5,000 hospitals across the United States, Vassar Brothers and Putnam received high marks for congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD.

“We are pleased that U.S. News & World Report recognized our cardiovascular teams for their excellence in the treatment of heart failure patients,” said Dr. Daniel O’Dea, vice president of Cardiovascular Services for the hospitals’ parent organization Health Quest. “We are dedicated to the compassionate and holistic care of our patients, utilizing some of the most advanced technology and leading treatments.”
“Putnam Hospital Center’s excellent results are attributable to the cooperation and teamwork of a wide spectrum of our staff,” said Dr. Lawrence Schek, the hospital’s vice president of Medical Affairs. “It is indicative of our dedication to our patients and their safety and also a testament to the outstanding care we offer to patients.”

Best Hospitals rankings help guide patients to facilities that deliver outstanding care across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions, according to U.S. News & World Report. The ranking methodologies include objective measures such as patient survival, the number of times a given procedure is performed, infection rates, nurse staffing adequacy and more.
For 2016-17, 153 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty, while 1,628 received a high performance rating in one or more specialties, procedures or conditions. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals that were high performing across multiple areas of care.
Best Hospitals was produced by U.S. News with RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. The rankings will be published in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2017” guidebook or viewed online at Best Hospitals.
