Visitation, Service for Walter (Ozzie) Osnoe

The Brewster resident was 85.

Walter J. “Ozzie” Osnoe, a lifelong Brewster resident and a longtime member of the United Brotherhood of Teamsters, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 after a brief illness. He was 85.

Walter was born January 23, 1930. He grew up in Brewster where his family worked on a farm on Pugsley Road and he attended the original Tilly Foster school. He graduated from Brewster High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Germany where he was a member of the military police.

He drove as a Teamster for some 20 years for Camarco Paving Co. in Mahopac and then for Brewster Transit Mix. He worked there for two decades before retiring in 1992.

On July 4, 1953, he married Dorothy “Dot” Montesi in Danbury, Conn. He built the house they lived in on Ivy Hill Road in Brewster that remains in the family. The couple drove around town in car with the license plate “OZDOT,” traveled the world together and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary among family and friends on the shores of Lake Mahopac in 2013.

He was a longtime parishioner of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster and a Brewster volunteer firefighter. He was an enthusiastic bowler and a perennially hopeful golfer. He watched the sport avidly well after he no longer played. Ozzie was beloved by many, known for his keen sense of humor, his intense landscaping skills and his unfailing willingness to help others in need.

In addition to his wife, Dot, he is survived by a son, David (Carol) of Poughkeepsie; two daughters, Susan (Alex) O’Connor of Mahopac and Donna (Andrew) O’Connor of Brewster; three grandsons and two granddaughters; a brother, Robert of New Fairfield, Conn. and a sister, Rita Molella of New Milford, Conn.

Visitation will be at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and a funeral Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church.
