Suffolk Legislature introduces $6.5M joint open-space purchase of 54.13-acre Southold Ventures parcel (newsbreak.com) ā€” Southold officials are moving ahead with a nearly $6.5 million joint purchase with Suffolk County to permanently preserve a 54-acre open-space parcel in town. The deal, already backed by the Southold Town Board, would create a passive park, protect wetlands, and strip development rights, including workforce housing credits, from the property if legislators give final approval.

Suffolk County expands testing for 'forever chemicals' in private wells in Orient and Cutchogue (northforksun.com) ā€” If you rely on a private well in Orient or near Southold Townā€™s closed landfill in Cutchogue, Suffolk County is expanding free testing for PFAS ā€œforever chemicals.ā€ Officials say participation has been limited so far, but at least one nearby home already exceeds state limits, and Southold leaders urge broader, more comprehensive testing to protect local drinking water.

Southold Town police and the Southold Fire Department responded, with the driver taken to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital and later released on an appearance ticket for a future court date.

Southold Man Caught With Brass Knuckles: PD (patch.com) ā€” A Southold man was arrested after a traffic stop on Route 25 in Mattituck, where police say he admitted to carrying metal brass knuckles.
