Stony Brook Brings AI Expertise to Long Island Small Businesses (stonybrook.edu) — Stony Brook University just graduated the first class of its LIA‑AI Growth Academy, where 49 Long Island small businesses spent five months learning how to use AI and each received a $5,000 grant. Training at Stony Brook's CEWIT and AI Innovation Institute helped owners design concrete AI deployment plans for marketing, operations, and customer service. The program aims to boost a "Silicon Island" economy while keeping small‑business authenticity intact.

Stony Brook University Professor Daniel Klein Receives a 2027 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Psychological Science (APS) (stonybrook.edu) — A Stony Brook University psychology professor has been honored with the Association for Psychological Science's 2027 Mentor Award, recognizing his decades of work guiding students and colleagues. The announcement, datelined Stony Brook, highlights his research on mood disorders and the university's broader role as a flagship research institution on Long Island. It's a point of pride for the campus and surrounding community.
   

3. Stony Brook Honors the 2026 Class of 40 Under Forty Alumni (stonybrook.edu) — Stony Brook University is spotlighting its 2026 class of 40 Under Forty alumni, celebrating young Seawolves whose early careers already influence healthcare, public service, STEM innovation and culture. At a New York City gathering, President Andrea Goldsmith praised honorees for expanding the university's impact across New York and beyond, underscoring how local graduates are shaping communities worldwide.
   

4. Team pins down where bats originated (futurity.org) — Researchers including a Stony Brook University ecology and evolution professor have helped pinpoint Europe as the birthplace of bats about 65 million years ago, reshaping scientists' understanding of these mammals. Using genomes from 103 species and dozens of fossils, the team also found that echolocation evolved soon after bats first developed flight, offering clues that may eventually inform human health and longevity research.
