• Stony Brook University holds Southampton Dialogues with NY Climate Exchange CEO (tbrnewsmedia.com) — Stony Brook University recently hosted a Southampton Dialogues conversation where President Andrea Goldsmith interviewed New York Climate Exchange CEO M. Sanjayan about the new climate-focused campus planned for Governors Island. They discussed how Stony Brook, as anchor institution, will give students hands-on access to climate research, data, and emerging green jobs, while tackling challenges like heat waves, AI's energy demands, and funding scalable climate solutions.
• 'Heel-strike' allowed early humans to walk farther at cost of high impact forces (eurekalert.org subscription) — New research partly conducted at Stony Brook University's biomechanics facilities shows that humans' heel-first walking style lets us travel 26–41% more efficiently than walking on the balls of our feet, though it increases impact forces on joints. Stony Brook collaborators helped measure chimpanzee and human gaits, offering fresh insight into how our ancestors evolved to walk long distances for hunting and gathering.
