Sunset Park Man Tried To Kill Social Worker's Interpreter: DA
An interpreter helping a social worker investigate reports of neglect was stabbed by the children's grandfather, prosecutors said.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN -- A 61-year-old Sunset Park man accused of stabbing a social worker's interpreter during a home visit was arraigned Wednesday on attempted murder and assault charges, prosecutors said.
Quanyi Feng, 61, could face 25 years in prison for allegedly stabbing the interpreter in the back with a kitchen knife after a dispute broke out when Children's Services workers visited his home, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said in a release.
The workers were investigating reports of neglect after Feng's grandchildren had been showing up to school messy and unkempt, the investigation shows.

"This interpreter and social worker were merely trying to do their jobs," District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. "...Such an unprovoked attack is especially disturbing because it can have a chilling effect on dedicated professionals doing important work to keep our children safe."
The social worker and interpreter visited the Sunset Park home on Nov. 8. and were speaking with the child's mother when a verbal dispute broke out, prosecutors said. Feng allegedly walked in and began arguing with the Cantonese interpreter.

The two staff members then tried to leave the apartment and make their way downstairs, but Feng came up behind them and stabbed the 55-year-old interpreter's lower back with a kitchen knife. He was arrested at the scene and the interpreter was sent to the hospital, where she needed surgery for the multiple stab wounds and damage to her organs.
Feng was indicted for second-degree attempted murder, first-and-second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. His bail was set at $250,000.
