At Home Design Center Opens in Syosset

Business will solicit residential and commercial projects.

Cathy Mullane earned her sip of Yellow Tail Friday afternoon during the grand opening celebration for At Home Design Center.

"The granite guy just left," Mullane said. "I was still cleaning 10 minutes before people got here."

But the results were worthwhile, as locals including members of the Syosset Chamber of Commerce were impressed with At Home's plush new digs at 63 Berry Hill Rd.

Mullane and partner Leonard Gross founded At Home three years ago after Mullane, a designer, did work at the home of Gross, a builder. They opened At Home in Westbury, but they're much happier now that they've moved to Syosset. Mullane described the business' former home as "off the beaten path."

"This location is a little more inviting," Gross added. "We were in an industrial park, which did provide some synergy with the granite guys there. But this area is easer for the homeowner to relate to."

At Home focuses on both residential and commercial projects. In the back of the business was a model showing what Bayville's Steve's Pier 1 will look like after it's refurbished. Mullane looks forward to getting in there and adding just the right touch.

"Anything that involves elements like custom cabinetry is what we do," Mullane said. "Projects vary greatly."
