UPDATE: Police ID Pedestrian Killed on Jericho Turnpike

A Manorville woman was struck and killed on Jericho Turnpike near Woodland Gate at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, according to Nassau County Police.

Jennifer Jenkins, 26, had stepped into the street on Jericho Turnpike when she was struck by a 2010 Ford SUV traveling eastbound, police said. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic was closed in both directions from South Oyster Bay Road to Route 135 to allow for investigation.

The driver, who remains unidentified by police, was not hurt and is not being investigated for criminality. The Ford SUV has been impounded for safety and brake inspections, police said.

The accident is the second this week involving a pedestrian,
