Burglar Smashed Window, Stole $5,800 Worth Of Cell Phones: Cops

The thief also stole a locked box with cash before fleeing the store, police say.

WOODBURY, NY — The search is on for a burglar who smashed a window and stole $5,800 worth of cell phones and a locked cash box in Woodbury, police said.

According to the Nassau County Police Department's Second Squad, the burglary took place on Saturday at 1:55 a.m. Second Precinct police on patrol discovered a broken window with an alarm ringing at the Verizon Wireless store, located at 8223 Jericho Turnpike, detectives said.

The thief entered the store by breaking a side window and removing assorted cell phones on display valued at $5,800, and also removed a locked box from near the register that contained an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

The burglar or burglars then fled in an unknown direction, police said.
