Woman Crashed Into Cop Car While Driving Drunk: Police

The 24-year-old and her passenger were both hospitalized with minor injuries, police say.

SYOSSET, NY - A Middle Island woman was arrested on a DWI charge after crashing into a cop car on the Long Island Expressway on Sunday morning, according to Nassau Police.

A Highway Patrol Officer was blocking the eastbound lanes of the LIE at exit 43 with his police car while investigating a car crash when 24-year-old Shanice A. Haynes, who was driving a 2009 Saturn, passed the warning flares set up on the roadway and hit the unoccupied car with its emergency lights on at about 5:34 a.m., police said.

An investigation revealed that Haynes was driving her car while drunk and she was placed into police custody, police said.

In addition, Haynes and her 23-year-old passenger were both transported to a local hospital and treated for injuries to their right ankle, police said.

There were no other injuries reported.

Haynes is charged with DWI, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation, third degree assault, second degree reckless endangerment, reckless Driving, and numerous traffic violations.
