End of August Deadline to Pay Late Taxes
Right now the penalty is just 2 percent.
The deadline for paying Town of Oyster Bay 2010 general taxes was Aug. 10, and residents who missed the payment have till the end of the month to avoid further penalties.
Residents can send in their bills through Aug. 31 and avoid additional interest and fees beyond the standard 2 percent late payment penalty.
Payments must be sent to the Nassau County treasurer at 240 Old Country Rd., Mineola, NY 11501.

"Failure to pay late taxes before the collection warrant expires will result in a delinquent tax lien proceeding with the possibility of the lien being sold the following February," Town Receiver of Taxes James J. Stefanich said. "Continued failure to pay all taxes levied against the property could result in your loss of the property."
Late payers should contact the receiver's office at 624-6400 if they did not receive a second notification with a delinquent tax bill. Payments received with a postmark past Aug. 31 cannot be accepted.
