ALS Softball Game Fundraiser

Portledge School is hosting its 3rd annual ALS Fundraiser Softball Game on Saturday, May 14, 2011 beginning at noon and running all afternoon at 355 Duck Pond Road, Locust Valley, NY.

The Varsity Baseball team will be on hand to lead the slow-pitch softball “pick-up” style game.  A pitching machine will be used so that it can be changed to meet everyone’s athletic abilities.  Kids of all ages, and adults, even grandparents, are welcome to play.  There will be food and music too, so you don’t have to play to enjoy the day!

This fundraiser was started by senior Catherine Ardito in honor of her neighbor, Vito "Tony" Leopardi, who died of ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) one year ago.  Catherine’s mission is to “raise awareness of this disease and solicit funds that will go towards researching a cure for this deadly disease.”  The members of the Varsity Baseball team, under the direction of Coach Brendan O’Rourke and team captain Chris McCloskey ’11, and the Portledge Student Council have been big supporters.  Several alumni come back to play in the game as well.
