Firefighters Respond To Mattress Fire At Jericho Motel

Officials say an occupant of the room was evaluated at the scene but refused medical attention.

JERICHO, NY — One person was evacuated following a mattress fire New Year's Day at a Jericho motel. Firefighters with the Jericho Volunteer Fire Department received multiple 911 calls for a room on fire at the Edgewood Motel on Jericho Turnpike around 11 p.m., officials said.

Arriving units found smoke showing from a mattress that was on fire inside a first floor room.

The fire was knocked down by a dry chemical extinguisher prior to their arrival and firefighters removed it from the room and extinguished the remaining fire.
