Firefighters Respond To Mattress Fire At Jericho Motel

JERICHO, NY — One person was evacuated following a mattress fire New Year's Day at a Jericho motel. Firefighters with the Jericho Volunteer Fire Department received multiple 911 calls for a room on fire at the Edgewood Motel on Jericho Turnpike around 11 p.m., officials said.

Arriving units found smoke showing from a mattress that was on fire inside a first floor room.

The fire was knocked down by a dry chemical extinguisher prior to their arrival and firefighters removed it from the room and extinguished the remaining fire.

The occupant of the room was evaluated at the scene but refused medical attention, officials said. No other rooms were effected and no other injuries reported.
